Two rather large online poker operators, UltimateBet and Absolute Poker, are currently working to join forces and become one super poker network, which will be called the CEREUS network, according to a recent announcement.
The merger will bring players from both online operators under a single platform, allowing users to play games with others from either operator, which means these players should expect to see increased cash game and tournament poker activity.
”I’m confident that Absolute Poker and UltimateBet customers will be thrilled by the new platform and we look forward to welcoming many new players from around the world,” said Paul Leggett, COO of UltimateBet and Absolute Poker.
The merger, however will not lead to anything more than a partnership because the operators do not have any plans currently in the works to merge the two sites into a single brand, which is what many thought could happen.
“Our company’s goal is to provide poker players with the ultimate online experience,” Legget said. “The launch of CEREUS is a major step for us in achieving our goal and we look forward to making many more exciting announcements very soon.”
The new platform these operators will be working under sometime in August is an advantage because it allows administrators to continually update the software quickly and easily. Therefore, users will see a product that consistently improves.
The two operators, UltimateBet and Absolute Poker, were recently the centre of attention when there was a security breach in which former employees were able to look at opponents hole cards, giving them an obvious unfair advantage. An investigation was launched and the source of the problem was found, but at this moment no money has been returned to the victims of the scam – who were targeted in high-limit rooms where large amounts of money was lost.
